V Festival

A couple of weekends ago, I worked on the bar in the Nissan Duke tent at V-festival. Whilst working I had the opportunity to watch so many different acts that was performing, most of which were really good. I had the chance to see acts such as Diana Vickers, Robyn, Chipmunk and Jason Derulo. My Favourite two acts who I saw perform over the weekend were Ellie Goulding and Chase and Status, both acts were amazing who really got the crowd going!
Whilst I wasn't working, I was allowed to go watch the festival. As I was sitting watching The Pretty Reckless perform, I noticed something which I have mentioned in my previous post about the 'festival look' and all the different types of wellies that you see, so I took a picture from where I was sitting and this photo shows what I mean.
With the festival scene over looks like I'm going to have to wait till next summer for more of that 'festival look' and more amazing artists performing. As far as my first two festivals have gone, I can see why people go back year after year, and she shall 100% see me back at V festival next year!

Big Chill Festival

Last weekend I went to The Big Chill Festival, as a member of staff. It was the first time I went to that festival, in fact my first time at any festival.

As my first experience at a festival, The Big Chill was amazing! Never could I have imagined there to be such a relaxed atmosphere at a festival, even when the acts were on, people were just sitting and watching, there was no pushing or crowd surfing, just an amazing relaxed atmosphere. The festival was kitted out with some of the most random things such as giant roses, a massive rubber duck in the lake and double beds just sitting in the field, it seriously was the big chill.

Over the past few years the 'festival look' has come around with wellies being a necessity. With an array of ages at the festival, it felt like a real family event. There was a lot of young people there, who seemed to be trying to fit the 'festival look' way too much, but with all the articles on websites, blogs and magazines about how to get the 'festival look' its only expected. As I was working I had the uniform of all black, however we still fit the look with our colourful wellies.

Lily Allen being one of those people that have helped define the 'festival look' was the headliner on the final night of the festival, and I have to say, she was amazing! Her appearance came just after the announcement that she is pregnant and there had been a lot of speculation that she was going to cancel, however she did show up and put on an amazing show!

Lily being a person that is known for her fashion choices such as dresses with trainers and tracksuits, come on stage sporting the "lumberjack" look as she called it, wearing flats, black jeans and a checked shirt, she put her outfit choice down to the fact that she was pregnant. Despite her slouchy look, she looked like she was glowing from the recent news of her pregnancy.

Over all it was an amazing weekend, I saw some brilliant acts such as Lily Allen and Kelis, and will most definitely be going back there next year, hopefully working with the press there, but if not ill be back behind the bar or potentially a festival goer.

Too much, too soon?

Recently i saw this online:

This is the Selfridges window display in Manchester. This display features a hangman style structure, with an Alexander McQueen coat hanging at the end of it. This display come just weeks after McQueen committed suicide, it's bit too soon in my opinion for VM like this. I can only assume that the Visual merchandiser who did this has been given a good telling off.

The dark world of the Eclipse

Today I went to see Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight Saga. I’m not a massive fan of the films, I’m not head over heels for Edward, and truthfully I can’t see the obsession with the films. I borrowed the first Film of a friend and only watched that within the last few months whilst being at uni, and then I watched the second film at my friend’s house just before I went to watch Eclipse. Out of all the three films, the third one most definitely has the best story line, however it’s nothing amazing, and it’s no Harry Potter or Sex and the City. If there is anything I can say about the film, it’s that it has a good standard of CGI used within the film, particularly with the use of werewolves. Although I can’t see what it is about this film, it’s obviously doing something right as it pulled in a whopping $261.2m across the world in its opening weekend. One thing that I couldn’t help but notice about the twilight films is the lack of colour and interesting fashion choices. The most interesting colour that I think I saw the whole film was white, apart from that the film is swept with black, greys and dark reds. I know that it’s meant to be a somewhat dark film, and colour is a given symbol of the mood and situation, but a little colour and fashion interest wouldn’t have gone a miss. I have to say without attractive men in the lead roles such as Robert Pattison and Taylor Lautner, I can’t imagine that the films would have been received in the same way in which they have. Purely for me, half of the interest in this film was the fact that Taylor Lautner, spends most of the film without a top on. If he wasn’t as ripped as he was, with the lack of colour and fashion credibility, I would not have paid to see this film.

The end of my first year.

I have recently come to the end of my first year at University, and I have to say I am shockingly sad. I never thought that 8 months would go so quickly and i would be so sad for my fist year to end.
Over the past 8 months I have learnt many things not just relating to my course but in life in general. Moving out of my house and hometown for the first time was one of the most exciting, yet strange things i think I've ever done. Moving in to a flat with 12 other people and learning new traits from people has been very beneficial. I'm grateful that I've been so lucky to live with such nice people, and I hope a few will be with me for a while. I'm also lucky that I've been one of the few that hasn't had really bad home sickness, especially as I've only been home on 3 separate occassions apart from Easter and Christmas holidays.
Starting a new course that I didn't like, has meant I've had to make decisions that will affect my life, either drop out of university or swap courses. I swapped courses after a week of being at university, and I do not in any way shape or form regret it. There have been a few times in which I have thought about dropping out of uni because of homesickness, and my course has been the one thing that has kept me here.
Before I came to university I knew that the one sports team I wanted to join was Trent Tigers Cheerleading Squad. I have done competitive cheer since I was 12, then I stopped when I was 17 due to 6th from classes conflicting with my training times, so for me to be able to get back into cheer has been amazing for me. Also I don't think that I would have done half as much exercise if I wasn't on the squad, I probably would have gained a good few stone in my first year without it.
My course has taught me a lot this year about marketing, promotion, upgrading, repositioning, team work and managing with deadlines, although at some points I couldn't see the point in somethings, I am now very glad that I have been taught it. My course has meant that I got to visit New York for the first time on one of their trips, which was the most amazing experience. My course has also led me to meet some of the most wonderful girls who I have had semianrs and lectures with for the last 8 months, and they have been part of the reason that I have enjoyed my first year so much.
I now have 4 months of summer to do with what I like. I had applied to do Camp America this summer, I managed to get passed the interview stage, but due to the recession I was unable to be placed, therefore I have been left with nothing to do this summer. I now need to find some work experience which will hopefully help me decide what career I want to follow at the end of my third year as I am currently completely clueless.
If there is anything that I have learnt within the last 8 months it is that Nottingham Trent University, is by far the most perfect university for me.
